Mini-ep 17: Manage your threshold, not your triggers
Managing Thresholds Instead of Triggers: A New Approach to Resilience?!
In this weekly mini-episode, I go leftfield (as always!) to offer you a slightly different perspective on how to handle your daily challenges.
Using my migraines as an analogy, I talk through the benefits of "going upstream" and focusing on managing your threshold, rather than just your triggers. As a migraine sufferer and AuDHDer, I've found this a really effective way to build my resilience and reduce my stress levels in everyday life and business.
By building resilience through small, consistent habits (like sleep, hydration, movement - MEDS!), you can often dissolve these triggers altogether.
Mini-ep 16: Stop crashing out. Hyperfocus responsibly!
Ever hit that "God mode" where you feel unstoppable? But what if I told you that’s exactly when you should pause? 🤯
While ADHD hyperfocus can feel like a superpower, it often leads to a huge energy crash - or worse, burnout. When you're in the zone, it's easy to ignore your body's signals, like hunger or needing a wee. I've learned that the moment you start feeling euphoria is actually a cue to slow down, just like when I swim in cold water.
After years of swimming in the River Itchen, I've realised that the moment I feel invincible is the exact moment I need to check in with myself. I am not, in fact, an actual dolphin!!
Mini-ep 15: Why ADHD burnout hits different
Burnout hits different for ADHD and AuDHD business owners. Can you relate?!
As ADHD business owners, we often feel the weight of big goals, endless new ideas, and the pressure of keeping our clients happy (never mind paying the bills!) But let's be real: if we don’t take a break, we risk running ourselves into the ground.
So how do we balance it all?
It starts by recognising that we wear multiple hats: the passionate human being, the dedicated employee, and the visionary CEO. Each part of us has unique needs - and very often those needs can pull in opposite directions!
For me, the answer lies in acknowledging these different sets of needs, and seeing them holistically. And always, always, putting yourself first - what do you need, as a human?
When these three parts of yourself work together in harmony, burnout becomes a thing of the past.
Mini-ep 14: How to stay ahead when life is lifing
How do you stay in business long‑term when things keep changing, clients disappear, and life keeps “lifing” – without constantly feeling blindsided?
I recently celebrated 7 years in business and thought: what better time to reflect on everything I've learned?! In this mini episode, I dive into Lesson 1 of my Seven Lessons for Seven Years in Business: Adapt or Die. I share the messy, real‑life truth of what it actually takes to stay ahead in business when you’re neurodivergent, juggling life, and trying to build something sustainable that works for you.
“The moment you get too comfortable is the moment something is probably about to go tits up.”
Mini-ep 13: Can you hold the tension?
Can you love your life but still feel overwhelmed?
Let’s talk about holding the tension.
Here's your permission slip: it’s totally okay to feel both gratitude and overwhelm at the same time.
As someone with an AuDHD brain, I often find myself in that all-or-nothing mindset. I'm grateful for my life, but goddamn is it a lot sometimes!!
What if it’s possible to hold space for both feelings at the same time?
Mini-ep 12: Are you top-down or bottom-up?
Are you a big picture thinker or all about the details? Let’s dive into how these processing styles shape our problem-solving...
Share this with someone who needs to hear this!
In our latest mini episode of the Unconventional Business Podcast, we explore the concepts of top-down and bottom-up processing.
For many neurodivergent folks, our approach to problem-solving can vary greatly from "the norm."
Where top-down processing starts with a big idea, bottom-up processing focuses on absorbing details first. This can be a real strength and allow us to spot details others miss, but it can also be a lot! Taking in lots of data can lead to sensory overwhelm for those of us who process the world differently.
Mini-ep 11: What do you need right now?
What do you really need in your business right now? 🤔
Let’s get real and raw and talk about those challenges! I want to hear from YOU!!
After an unbelievable FOUR YEARS of the Unconventional Business Podcast, I’ve realised it’s YOU who inspires me when I go off track (I am an ADHDer, after all!).
Every time I hit a wall with my production schedule, your wonderful messages pull me back in and fire me up to get going again. One recent message slapped me in the face: a listener shared how this very podcast helped them grow from zero to a four-figure income in just months! 🎉
Mini-ep 10: Are you giving too much away?
Ever wondered if you’re giving too much away in your business? 🤔
Share this ep with a fellow ADHD business owner who needs to hear this!
In today’s episode, I’m talking about that fine line between sharing value with your audience and giving everything away for free.
It’s a common debate: should you hold stuff back or give it all away in your content? Here’s my take on this: when you share your insights, perspective and thinking, it’s not about giving away your expertise for free; it’s about offering your audience a taste - and earning their trust.
Mini-ep 9: What If You Treat Yourself Like A Plant?
Is your environment helping or hindering you right now? 🤔
Share this ep with someone who needs to hear this!
So often, we forget how much our surroundings affect our well-being. Recently, I spent a weekend repotting my houseplants—they were pot-bound, struggling to thrive. 🌱
Just like those plants, we sometimes have just about enough to stay alive but don’t truly flourish in our environments. Are we in the right space? Do we have what we need to grow?
Mini-ep 8: Get Out of 'All or Nothing' Thinking
Are you stuck in 'all or nothing' thinking?
"If I don't do the whole thing I'd imagined today, then I've failed?"
Yeah, I feel you!
ADHDers and AuDHDers can be absolute pros at setting themselves unrealistic targets or expectations, coming up against a challenge or resistance, and then throwing the whole idea in the bin - oh and beating themselves up about it, of course!
In this mini-ep I'm breaking down what all-or-nothing thinking can look like and how we can shift into a place of all or SOMETHING, to set ourselves up for success rather than failure. If you've ever wondered what self-compassion looks like in action - this is it!
Mini-ep 7: Is Your Business An 'If...'?
When you talk about your business, do you say 'If it works out...' or 'How is this going to work out?'
It might sound like a small shift in language, but there is a big difference in mindset!
No shade, as always, but in this ep I invite you to think about the mindset and the language you're using - and crucially, whether that's motivating for you.... or secretly keeping you "safe"!
Mini-ep 6: Put down the stick and TRUST yourself
Hey Neurodivergent person, guess what? Getting on in life isn't about beating yourself with a bigger stick. It's about learning to trust yourself! Who knew?!
In this mini-ep I chat through how a lack of self-trust can show up, reflecting on what I see in my work with my ADHD business coaching clients.
I also talk through some teeny tiny ways you can start to work on your self-trust - and put down that stick!
Mini-ep 5: Bowling, Pop-Tarts and Childlike Joy
When was the last time you did something just for shits n giggles!?
In this mini-ep I'm giving you a big ol' permission slip to reconnect with your sense of childlike joy. Go do something pointless, silly, frivolous! Go do something for the fun of it! After all, being a grown-up with a tonne of responsibility can be exhausting, right? Sometimes we just need to spend some time not taking it all (or ourselves) too seriously!
Did you go on a mission for pop-tarts after listening to this episode? Or get your colouring book out? Or have a kitchen disco? Maybe you stopped overthinking it and booked that tattoo appointment!? Drop a comment and tell me about your silly activity - I'm so here for it!
Mini-ep 4: Your Invitation To Slow The F Down!
It's time for another mini-ep! Today I'm giving you an invitation to slow the fuck down, my friend.
You absolutely do not need to move at the speed of your million-miles-an-hour brain, despite what it's telling you.
Bring your hot or cold beverage of choice and take 5 to slow down and tune in. I promise you'll feel better afterwards.
Bonus points if you drop me a message and tell me your fave drink!
Mini-ep 3: Overwhelmed? Time to size up!
Overwhelmed? It’s time to size up your diary and reclaim your space! 💫
Share this with someone who needs a reminder!
In our fast-paced world, the pressure to be productive can often feel overwhelming - especially for us ADHDers and neurodivergent folks. Many of us find ourselves jam-packing our calendars, believing that every free minute should be filled with SOMETHING.
In this week's mini-ep I'm sharing a fun perspective on how to combat this feeling of overwhelm by sizing up your diary, and breaking down the relationship between productivity and rest. And weirdly - how that relates to my revelation about sizing up my wardrobe!
Mini-ep 2: The ADHD Lens (and varifocals)
What is the ADHD lens and why does everyone bang on about it?
Well folks, it’s officially happened: I’m old. In this week's mini-ep I’m updating you on the state of my eyes and why it’s such a great analogy for how we see things as ADHDers.
I use mowing the lawn as an example of just how different that view can be (inspired by looking out at my own scraggy-looking lawn!)
What has viewing things through an ADHD lens helped you to do differently? Drop me a comment and let me know!
Mini-ep 1: How's your space looking?
How's your space looking, my friend? Does it need a clear out, a tidy up, a refresh?!
WELCOME BACK TO SEASON FIVE!!! Thank you so much for all your feedback, comments, shares, and likes. It really means the world to know that this podcast is helping so many people in life and business. It's what keeps me coming back!
I'm throwing in a little something different this season, with some more regular short, snappy mini-eps. This one is about encouraging you to take a look around at your workspace and admitting something rather embarrassing about my own!!
